| It is clear to every one that information
technology is bringing a wide range of facilities to the day
to day life of government, citizen and businessmen. It is
having great impact on the efficiency of the outputs of the
work undertaken by these different entities. Looking at the
percentage of the content available on the internet and the
software applications available in the market; 80% is in English
and this in away is not addressing the needs of those nations
which have their procedures done in their native languages.
The lake of local content is affecting the work process and
efficiency of these nations. In case of Afghanistan the country’s
official languages are Pashto and Dari and all the administrative
tasks are done in these languages. So in order to introduce
electronic administration and culture of paper less office
it is a must to have the system in local languages.
The project will work on the computer terms and will find
appropriate terms in Afghan official languages, which will
be then used by different software developing companies. The
project will also cover the Local and Lexicon for the language.
This project will address these issues and upon completion
will open grounds for those who have literacy in their native
languages to use computer and make use of this fantastic technology
in their day to day tasks.
Association is partnering with Microsoft and PAN Localization
Project funded by IDRC (International Development Research
Center) Canada.
The project will start on 1st of September 2004.
